Film Treatment

 Film Treatment

Logline

3 boys differing in personality need to get their revenge and steal back what is rightfully theirs. This unexpected team is destined to go wrong.

Characters

The 3 main characters are a group of teen boys who are nothing alike as this foreshadows the failure of the robbery and gives the film a comedic effect with the constant arguments and insults as well as all the things that go wrong.

Chris- Considered to be the smart one of the groups and the ‘leader’. He is portrayed as confident but also very impatient and cannot cope with the other 2 bickering. He is like the peacekeeper between the two and treats them like family.

Micky- The self-centred, careless one in the group who is jealous of Chris (as he is smarter) but does things his own way and tries to one up everyone. He can be quite aggressive towards the other 2 but tries to be comforting when he needs to be. Him and Evan are completely opposite characters and clash in personalities therefore are always arguing and insulting each other which leads to his inconsistent behaviour to get back at them

Evan- The loser of the group. He is viewed as the coward and is very scared and extremely cautious. He is the exact opposite of Micky, and this is the reason they argue so much as their personalities clash.

Overview

The Opportunists is a thriller comedy film where 3 teenagers try taking a trophy, they believe is rightfully theirs. Chris, Micky and Evan are 3 boys ranging in personalities from a scared weak boy to a self-centred idiot to a confident semi-smart individual who massively value each other but are a very unexpected group of friends. They end up stealing the trophy but mess up multiple times along the way due to their personalities colliding.

The robbery seems like it is going to go right but progressively gets more and more likely to fail mainly due to Micky and his self-centred, impatient personality. This is intended to show the ups and downs in friendships and show how they can still work together and successfully pull it off while being comedic and showing how fun and dangerous it is being a teenager.

Synopsis

Act 1

Chris is staring down the trophy (that they are planning to steal) at school cutting back and forth between the trophy and his eyes until he gets up and leaves the room to tell the others about it (Micky and Evan who are the other main characters). This leads into a bird's eye view camera angle of them planning what they are going to do starting off calm and slowly starting to become more tense with an increase in foreshadowing of failure.

Act 2

In the planning scene Micky and Evan start arguing and continue to do so slandering each other while entering the next scene when walking up the stairs ready to steal it. Micky starts getting very hyperactive and has more energy than before while Evan gets more nervous and scared about how it could all go wrong. The robbery seems to be decreasing in chance of success as Chris and Evan can’t find the trophy (which causes Chris to get angrier and Evan to become more anxious and scared) and Micky abandons his job due to his boredom which results in him finding the trophy and aggressively stealing it.

Act 3

A longshot of Micky running down the hallway getting closer to the camera getting chased. Chris and Evan see this and realises they must go along with this new plan trying to help Micky running with him and getting the door. They successfully get away and the door separates them from Trev which is shown through the use of a medium shot behind the three boys with Trev being shown through the door. Scene ends with a medium shot of them walking off while fading to black.

Wrap-up

The extract is left with the boys getting away with the trophy successfully but causing a lot of chaos and problems. Even though they have the trophy, it didn’t go the way they wanted it due to their clash in personalities.

I have completed my Film Treatment pre-production so that I can understand the meanings behind the use of media language as well as organising and summarising my idea. I have typed an overview which summarises the plot as well as a summary for different plots which gives a rough understanding of the Acts. The outcome it has on my media project is that it focuses on the main meanings instead of having many meanings and making everything very cluttered.
